General Motors and the 1000 Horsepower ‘Super truck’

It seems electric vehicles are really hitting the stages in all forms the automaker GM confirming recently that they have plans to produce an all-electric 4×4 Hummer vehicle under its GMC brand, some saw a teaser for the new truck prior to the recent Super Bowl advert but the whole world took note as not only is this an iconic vehicle but electric too and so moving with the times.

There will be lovers and haters for the all-new-electric-vehicle but it makes sense with the simpler and less modular components that take the strain away from long term servicing and ownership, the electric motors offer tremendous torque outperforming even highly tuned traditionally aspirated performance engines, GM said their new super truck will have the power needed to accelerate from 0 – 60 mph in just 3 seconds.

The electric monster will offer some 11,500 feet of torque which is the equivalent of 1000 HP and this demonstrates the sheer power that could be offered so long as the battery storage options are adequate for delivery.

In a statement, Duncan Aldred who is the vice president of global Buick and GMC, said “GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights,”

The new truck will no doubt be available in several configurations and is highly anticipated, the company said the Hummer EV will be produced at its Detroit-Hamtrack manufacturing plant and assembly plant in Michigan and they will be investing $2.2 billion into the facility as well as $800 million on supplier tooling to further produce electric vehicles as well as for the subsidiary company ‘Cruise’ that are a self driving vehicle marque, the Cruise origin which has been designed for ride sharing will be produced at the same facility, this plan should create 2000 jobs, GM stated.
